Horacio E. Beccar Varela is a partner at Beccar Varela, and its Managing Partner Emeritus. He joined the firm in 1984 and was first elected Managing Partner in 2000.
His practice areas include international business transactions, finance agreements, corporate law and mergers and acquisitions. He led several teams working on corporate restructurings, acquisitions, complex financing agreements and privatization proceedings.
During his tenure as Managing Partner, Horacio’s skills in fostering teamwork, dialogue, transparency, and cohesiveness contributed to Beccar Varela’s continuous growth. During challenging times such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the global crisis of 2008, and the turbulent local socio-economic crisis of 2001 just as he took the helm, he ensured stability and continuity for both clients and staff. Under his leadership, the firm constantly modernized and innovated, and celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2022.
Horacio graduated from the Universidad de Buenos Aires (Lawyer, 1984) and obtained his Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the University of Illinois, USA (Urbana-Champaign College of Law, LL.M., 1988). He worked as a foreign associate at Shearman & Sterling (New York, USA, 1988) and at Hughes Hubbard (New York, USA, 1988-1989).
He is a member of the Buenos Aires Bar Association, the International Bar Association and the Advisory Board of TrustLaw. He was part of the Board of Directors of the Colegio de Abogados de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires.
He actively participates in international fora as institutional representative of the firm and also in conferences related to professional firms’ management.
Horacio has been recognized by The Legal 500, Who’sWhoLegal, Latin Lawyer 250, IFLR 1000 and LACCA Approved. In 2023, Horacio was honored by Latin Lawyer with the Law Firm Leader of the Year award.
