Agustín Waisman is a partner of Beccar Varela, where he heads the firm’s Competition & Anti-Trust and Consumer Protection Departments. He joined the firm in 2010

His practice areas include competition and antitrust, consumer protection, and gaming law. Agustín has participated in a large number of complex acquisitions and investigations for violations of the competition law, representing clients from a vast array of industries including banking, credit cards, insurance, food, apparel, personal care products, cleaning products, pharmaceuticals, steel, mining, oil & gas, cement and construction supplies, agribusiness and agrochemicals, hotels, tourism, car rental, aeronautics, automotive and auto parts, appliances, electronics, open television services and cable, audiovisual content, telecommunications, infrastructure, investment funds, shipping, and logistics. In recent years, he has counselled the leading platforms in the online payments market, tourism services, social media, messaging platforms, online gaming, and ecommerce marketplaces.

Agustín obtained his Law degree from Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (2001) and his Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the University of Toronto, Canada (2005). He is a professor of Competition Law and Intellectual Property at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella. He has published more than 50 academic articles, including a number accepted through blind review proceedings, in Argentina, Australia, Germany (Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property and Competition Law), the United States (Chicago-Kent University), Mexico, and the United Kingdom (Oxford Journal of European Competition Law and Practice, European Competition Law Review and Oxford European Intellectual Property Review, among others). His articles have been quoted in books, academic articles, and decisions of the Argentine Competition Commission, trial courts, and courts of appeal. He also publishes collaborations in newspapers such as La Nación and Clarín.

He is a member of the Buenos Aires Bar Association and the International Bar Association (IBA), and vice president of the Competition/Antitrust Commission of the Colegio de Abogados de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires.

Agustin has been recognized by Chambers Latin America, The Legal 500, Who’s Who Legal, Leaders League, and Latin Lawyer 250.
