On April 1, 2020, the Superintendence of Health Services (Superintendencia de Servicios de Salud) issued the Resolution 281/2020, published at the Official Gazette on April 2, 2020 (“Resolution”) by means of which it is established that for the as long as the mandatory, social, preventive isolation measure is in place, Health Insurance Entities shall adopt all necessary measures to assure the provision of medicine for the treatment of chronic diseases to its beneficiary population.
To such extent, they must ensure that the delivery of the medicine exceeds the usual periods, in order to avoid the beneficiaries going to the pharmacies. All prescriptions for drugs for chronic use shall be understood as fully extended, for the period of the mandatory, social, preventive isolation measure and up to thirty days after their termination.
The provisions of the Resolution will be of exceptional and exclusive application for those patients who, during the indicated period, do not have prescribed modifications to their therapeutic scheme, thereby understanding any change in active pharmaceutical ingredient, dosage and/or way of administration.
The Health Insurance Entities who provide medicines for the treatment of chronic diseases indicated above are also authorized, which, in turn, are subject to recognition by the Single Reimbursement System (SUR), to submit the reimbursement requests with a copy of the last prescription issued by the treating professional.
The Resolution is applicable in the City of Buenos Aires, and all jurisdictions are invited to adhere to it.
