Ricardo Castaneda is a partner at Beccar Varela, having joined the firm in 2021.

His practice areas include Mergers & Acquisitions, Corporate Law, Project Finance, and Energy. He has been counsel to companies involved in the oil & gas sector, power, infrastructure & telecommunications, chemical industry and agribusiness in complex M&A transactions. In addition, he has been involved in the structuring and financing of conventional and renewable energy projects.

Ricardo Castañeda is a lawyer graduated from Universidad Católica Argentina (2000). He obtained a postgraduate degree in Corporate Law from Universidad de Buenos Aires (2003) and a master’s degree in Business Law from Universidad Austral (2005); he completed the Negotiation and Leadership Program at Harvard University (2015).

He started his career at the Commercial Court No. 6 of the City of Buenos Aires. After this experience, he continued his professional career in legal advisory firms, working as an associate at Matta & Trejo and at Calatrava, García Pullés & Asociados, and as an international associate at Allen & Overy in New York. For more than thirteen years he was a member of Estudio O’Farrell, where he was a partner for eight years and headed the Corporate, Finance and Capital Markets Department. Prior to joining Beccar Varela, Ricardo headed the Legal Department of YPF Luz, an electric power generation company, and a leader in the renewable energy sector.

He is a member of the Colegio Público de Abogados de la Capital Federal (Buenos Aires Bar Association) and has been admitted to the Bar Association of New York as a foreign legal consultant.

He was a professor in the course of Introduction to Corporate Law (Elementos de Derecho Comercial) from 2007 to 2010 and from 2010 he is a professor in the course of Companies Law at the Universidad de Buenos Aires. From 2020 he has been a professor in the course of Renewable Energy Legal Framework and Projects at the Hydrocarbons Law Degree of the Universidad Austral.

He authored the 2016 and 2017 editions of the Argentine Chapter of the international publication Getting the Deal Through/M&A (Law Business Research). Additionally, he has made other publications in other legal journals in Argentina.

Ricardo has been recognized in M&A by Chambers & Partners, Legal 500, IFRL 1000, and Latin Lawyer 250.
