Update of INPI tariffs and creation of the Industrial Property Tariff Measurement Unit (UMAPI)
Intellectual Property – Patents & Trademarks Department Report | Update of INPI tariffs and creation of the Industrial Property Tariff Measurement Unit (UMAPI).
Dear All,
On March 20, 2026, the National Institute of Industrial Property (“INPI”) published in the Official Gazette Resolution No. 75/2026 (the “Resolution”, available here), updating the tariffs applicable to all the services it provides, effective and creating the Industrial Property Tariff Measurement Unit (“UMAPI”), with monthly adjustment according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
The Resolution creates the UMAPI as the measurement unit in which the INPI tariffs will be expressed. Its initial value is set at one-hundredth of the fee of a new trademark application (1 UMAPI = $360). As an example, the application for registration of a new trademark (up to 20 goods/services) is set at 100 UMAPI ($36,000). Tariffs are expressed simultaneously in UMAPI and in pesos.
The value of the UMAPI will be updated monthly in accordance with the CPI published by INDEC, and the updated value shall be applicable from the first day of the month following the publication of the index. The INPI will publish the updated value on its website.
The new tariffs set by the annex to the Resolution have been in force since April 1, 2026. As of May 1, 2026, the UMAPI will be adjusted taking as a reference the value adjusted according to the CPI of April 2026 with respect to March 2026, and so on with monthly adjustments.
The UMAPI will not be applicable for the payment of tariff differences, variable tariffs, tariffs calculated as a percentage of the economic value of contracts, or for any other tariff not expressed in UMAPI in the annex to the Resolution. Similarly, variable tariffs and those calculated as a percentage of the economic value of contracts will continue to be governed by their specific criteria, without the intervention of UMAPI.
Finally, it should be noted that the Resolution had to be rectified by the INPI due to a material error in its tariff annex. In this way, Resolution No. 78/2026 (available in Spanish here) contains the annex with all the tariffs in force as of April 1.
