Data Privacy and Data Protection Department report | New Draft of the Personal Data Protection Law
A news item published on the Agency for Access to Public Information website (the “Agency”) on August 1st, 2022, reports the opening of a process to amend Law No. 25,326 on the Protection of Personal Data. In particular, the news story refers to the creation of debate spaces for public agencies, civil society organizations, universities, and the private sector to initiate the process mentioned above. The objective is to prepare a project for a new Personal Data Protection Law that allows responding to new challenges imposed by the technological transformations and the development of the digital economy, and at the same time, that harmonizes with the highest regional and international standards, from a human rights approach, with a situated and sovereign viewpoint.
In view of the above, during September, a public consultation will be held to guarantee citizens’ effective participation, per the provisions of Decree No. 1172/03 on access to public information. A section will be opened on the Agency’s website for the incorporation of comments and contributions, to strengthen the new bill.
