On December 9, 2024, the Government of Argentina’s website published the Guides titled “Our Digital World” by the Agency for Access to Public Information (hereinafter, “AAPI”), aimed at strengthening the protection of personal data for children and adolescents in digital environments (available only in Spanish here).
To this end, the AAPI released, on one hand, the Guide for Adolescents (available only in Spanish here), which helps them identify potential threats and develop measures to safeguard their privacy. On the other hand, it also published the Pedagogical Guide (available only in Spanish here) which provides educators and parents with tools and educational proposals to address these topics with children and adolescents.
The Guide for Adolescents aims to raise awareness about the value of personal data in the digital world, educate on the risks and benefits of sharing information online, and promote responsible habits when using the Internet and social media. This Guide helps them understand what personal data is, the importance of protecting it, and concepts such as digital identity, footprint, and citizenship, as well as their rights, the legal tools to safeguard them, and how to exercise those rights.
The Pedagogical Guide, in turn, is aimed at parents, teachers, and educators who wish to work with children and adolescents on the importance of safeguarding their privacy and personal data security. To achieve this goal, it includes educational proposals designed for group workshops with various approaches, such as understanding and highlighting key concepts, fostering debate and collective reflection, or devising strategies to prevent risky situations, among others.
