PRESS RELEASE

Buenos Aires, May 7, 2019. On April 26, the International Association of Football Lawyers (AIAF, for its acronym in French) celebrated its First Latin American Meeting at the main office of Beccar Varela law firm in Buenos Aires. The event was hosted by Rodrigo Ortega Sánchez, AIAF’s founder and Board of Directors member and associate at Beccar Varela, and Ramón Moyano, partner of the same firm. It counted with more than ninety assistants related to the football world; among them, FIFA’s legal counsels, members of CONMEBOL, AFA and AUF, as well as arbitrators of the Arbitral Tribunal of Sport (TAS, for its acronym in French). Patricia Moyersoen, president of the association, could not attend the meeting.

AIAF meetings usually provide the main space for debate. On this occasion, four panels guided the discussions: “Minors in football – The South American problem”, moderated by Andrés Patón Urich (AFA Argentina); “Conmebol regulations, procedures and jurisprudence”, moderated by Daniel Cravo (Brazil); “CAS Jurisprudence – Latest news”, moderated by Juan de Dios Crespo (Spain) and “Upcoming modifications of the RETJ”, moderated by Reyes Bellver (Spain).

The meeting was a success; the different debates allowed attendees to arrive at important conclusions, formulated jointly by those who day by day build the practice of one of the most popular sports in the world, football.

The Association Internationale des Avocats du Football – AIAF, founded in 2012, brings together more than one hundred lawyers from thirty-four countries, whose goal is to develop a professional network to exchange points of view related to football law. AIAF aims to be the main reference in the development of local and international football regulations.

Founded in 1897, Beccar Varela is a leading full-service law firm in Argentina. It advises local and international companies in all areas of corporate law across all industries. The firm opened its Sports Law Department in 2013.
