Interministerial Artificial Intelligence Board

CIRCULARS

TMT (Telecoms, Media, Technology) | Interministerial Artificial Intelligence Board

On September 24, 2024, Administrative Decision 899/2024 (only available only in Spanish here) was published in the Official Gazette, introducing modifications to Administrative Decision 750/2023, which had established the Interministerial Committee on Artificial Intelligence.

Key Points of Administrative Decision 899/2024:

1-Modification of the Presidency of the Interministerial Committee: The Interministerial Committee on AI, created in 2023 to coordinate and formulate a comprehensive AI strategy, will now be presided over by the Secretariat of Innovation, Science, and Technology of the Chief of Cabinet of Ministers (Article 1). This change aims to ensure a more specialized approach to the development and application of AI in the public sector.

2-Expansion of the Interministerial Committee: The composition of the Interministerial Committee has been modified to include key new jurisdictions such as the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Deregulation and State Transformation (Article 2).

3-Invitation to Private Entities: As outlined in Administrative Decision 750/2023, the Secretariat of Innovation and the Secretariat of Strategic Affairs have the authority to invite public and/or private entities with interest or expertise in artificial intelligence and related technologies to participate in the Interministerial Committee (Article 4). This presents a clear opportunity for private sector companies to collaborate directly in the development of policies and technological solutions.

We recommend our clients in the technology and innovation sectors to remain alert to potential invitations to participate in the Interministerial Committee, as this would allow them to be involved in the development of government strategies on AI and related technologies. Additionally, we suggest exploring opportunities for collaboration with the public sector on digital transformation and administrative modernization projects.
