Beccar Varela advises Grupo Don Mario on the acquisition of Biotrigo.
Buenos Aires, October 26th, 2023. On October 6th, the Don Mario Group (GDM) acquired the Argentine subsidiary of Brazilian company Biotrigo Genética, a leader in wheat cultivation in Latin America. The operation is subject to the approval of the National Commission of Competition Defense of Argentina (CNDC).
With the incorporation of Biotrigo, GDM will increase its investment in plant genetics research and development programs. The acquisition will respect and provide continuity to both the business and the varieties developed by Biotrigo. GDM will double its commitment to incorporating technology for agriculture through the Sembrá Evolución program, which guarantees access to new developments to the entire sector in Argentina.
Biotrigo Genética is a seed company dedicated to licensing wheat varieties. GDM is a global group that researches, develops, and markets patented products in plant genetics for field crops. It was born as a family business in Chacabuco, province of Buenos Aires. With almost 40 years of history, it operates in more than 15 countries and employs more than 1,500 employees.
